This week begins my countdown to Monolith. This will be the Festival that puts Denver on the hipster summer fest map. Do you remember when we had to travel hours into the mountains of Park county, endure half-crazed yokels, survive off pizza and PBR, and sleep on cramped cabin floors with 40 strangers, just to experience a decent three day festival in Colorado? Well I do. Actually...it was kinda fun, but that was in our youth. Now that we have matured we need a festival that recognizes the level of sophistication we have attained.

For the past few years, Dr. Matthew Fetcher hosted these autumn soirees for a sizable variety of indie-centric socialites. All attendees would do their best send-up of their  favorite stereotypical hillbilly caricature and then run down the main street of Fairplay naked. Unbeknownst to his guests, Matt Fetcher was only incubating his festival, road testing it on those whose criticism he trusted the most, preparing his audience for when he could unleash his vision on the masses. That time has come. Monolith Festival will be unveiled Sept. 14-15 at Red Rocks Amphitheater.

Here is the first taste of this soon-to-be legendary festival.
